Nolisé is a city-state on the Western Continent. It once belonged to the Empire of Kronzreg, but seceded along with the other Merchant Cities some six hundred years ago.
Etymology
"Nolision" means The Divider of Water in Archaic Kronzregi dialect. The city itself takes the name after Nolisé Bay, lying east of it. Nolisé Bay became a center of commerce as a perfect natural harbor, with deep water and protective land formations on both sides. The harbor defenses had also been enhanced by artificial breakwaters and an isle with a lighthouse.
Races
The Merchant Cities are generally ruled by humans, but all other folks may be met while traversing the narrow streets of Nolisé, from roachmen to dwarves and elves. Public servants and the soldiery are exclusively humans, and so are most of the trading firms.
State and Society
The Golden Prince is head of state, elected by an assembly of fifty wealthy citizens. The administrative branch and the military serve the Prince directly. The Prince takes his seat in the Keep, to which the nine hundred stairs of the Highway lead.
